CH1607 – Reserves Education Assistance Program

The National Defense Authorization Act of 2016 ended REAP on November 25, 2015. Some individuals will remain eligible for REAP benefits until November 25, 2019, while others are no longer eligible for REAP benefits.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill in many ways has replaced REAP because it also provides educational assistance benefits for Reserve and National Guard members called to active duty on or after September 11, 2001, and in many cases provides a greater benefit than REAP.

Reserves Education Assistance Program was established for Reservists and National Guard members who are called or ordered to active duty in response to a conflict or national emergency (contingency operation) as declared by the President or Congress. This new program makes certain individuals who were activated after September 10, 2001, either eligible for education benefits or eligible for increased benefits. Benefits are paid monthly via direct deposit to you as the student. With this program, no money is sent directly to the school, so it is your responsibility to pay for your charges, either out-of-pocket or via financial aid from your school, if applicable.  To check the most current payment rates for Chapter 1607 REAP please click here.
